Our Annual Staffing Sector Review was held on Thursday 16th October 2008. It was hosted by Dechert LLP at their London office. This event was a practical no-waffle session with Directors of recruitment businesses attending. In a talk intriguingly titled Proud, Worried, Learnt, Focused, Ian Temple, CEO of Hydrogen Group plc, told us how his business meets the challenges of the current climate. Sue Dodd from Agile Intelligence, our industry's leading Economist, gave us her opinion on that climate. Charles Wynn-Evans of Dechert covered key legal issues in employment law, particularly around redundancies. Simon La Fosse who recently started his own business La Fosse Associates after fourteen years as a CIO recruiter at Harvey Nash spoke about starting a business in a downturn and his plans for the future. Finally, we had a panel moderated by Mark Brewer, Partner at The SR Group, which fielded questions from the audience on the value of the recruiter/supplier relationship. Panellists included Grant Weinberg, International Talent Acquisition of Gilead Sciences, Jeremy Harrison, CEO of Harrison Rose Ltd and ex Head of HR for the Investment Management Arm of Lazard and Sue Beech, HR Business Partner of Royal Mail.
