The Recruitment Consultant - 2003-09-10

Dear Editor

Charles Rees from Ambition 24Hours had no need to apologise to the recruitment to recruitment industry for hiring people without a recruitment background. (Going Public, in the September issue). Our sector isn't limited to placing candidates with recruitment experience. Many of our clients are now hiring trainee Consultants with sector or functional experience and then training them in recruitment techniques. Recruitment to Recruitment firms are just as capable of finding these people and assessing their suitability to our industry as we are at identifying good experienced Recruiters. In fact, if a trainee comes to a recruitment to recruitment company specifically for a job in our industry, it indicates a commitment to making this their career, rather than just one of a number of job options they are considering.

In their search for high calibre people most of our clients are equally keen to look at trainees (even if that "trainee" has many years' business experience) as they will a good Recruiter. There's a particular shortage of Consultants with eighteen months/one years experience at the moment because of course most firms weren't hiring trainees back then. The current high demand for trainee consultants is an indicator of positive times returning to our industry.

So Charles, you know where to look next time!

Zena Everett
Director
Perriam and Everett Recruitment.
